July's busy fingers

 A spot of mending was done at our last meeting - well this sparkly piece couldn't be left in a dark corner any longer, could it?







Some intricate patchwork was also dug out to try to get it finished ...........

and a jumper was picked up again - what great stripey wool.

The finishing touches were made to the nose bag for the yarnbombed horse - those carrots peeping out at the top look good enough to eat!

The blanket had the hearts attached at the last minute - this decoration for the horse was inspired by Alice Through The Looking Glass.

A lot of measuring and re-measuring went into getting the balaclava for the horse just right - I hope he appreciated it!! We don't do this for just anyone, you know!

Horsing around....

Well it couldn't have been a better day on Saturday for the Rowntrees Park party - and all the yarnbomb decorations looked spectacular.

 Didn't our efforts look grand, and we finished something!!

Fiery sparkle!

Members arrived at our June meeting with a great range of items. Another lovely half-finished beaded piece was unearthed - it gradually transformed into a pretty bracelet.








A handful of Suffolk puffs were created from fabric oddments to add to the growing collection. And some spare black and white wool that had been donated was knitted into a braid
 ready for our July unveiling in the park!

A series of fabric feathers- made from dyed fabric stitched with metallic thread - were attached to wings ready for a firebird to take flight....

And a handful of red,white and black pom-poms appeared: some made from wool, and others from a mix of fabric remnants, braids and wool. Another completed element for the park celebrations!

Continuing our bird theme: a photo of the applique bird cushions from several sessions ago - another completed item!

Two more completed UFOs!

Our first carrots of the season made an appearance at our May meeting - two are just awaiting their tops to grow! No, we haven't gone all green-fingered: they are part of our preparations for the Rowntrees Park party.





A crocheted spider's web spread out its silky threads during the evening and an intricate piece of beading was worked on.

 An intriguing piece of cross-stitch appeared too - what will it say when it's done?

And two previously unfinished objects were finally completed. Well done!

April's offerings

A delightful box of Suffolk puffs made an appearance at our last group and was added to during the course of the evening - what creation will they be turned into?





The patchwork pieces are coming along nicely and there is talk that the end is not too far off now! Will we have a completed item in the near future?

A number of different knitting and crochet projects continued - a lovely raspberry/blackcurrant scarf was one of those underway. Hmm, summer fruits!

An old photograph from the late 1910s was being embellished, too, to test out the creation of a page for a fabric book.

Discussions about the yarnbombing event continued through the evening and various plans are underfoot!

Stitching for Rowntrees Park Party!

We are really pleased to be involved in the birthday celebrations in Rowntrees Park on Sat 13th July from 2-5pm. Our group has been given special permission to yarnbomb the horse! What will look best?

Some of us had chance to have another look at the creature and he reminded us of different things: a panto horse, the knight from the chess game in Alice in Wonderland, a medieval joust and even made us think of the York link with Dick Turpin!





We'll think on these ideas a bit further before making a decision. Would a simple colour scheme of black and white look effective?

We are thinking along the lines of making a number of pieces to decorate the horse e.g. a saddle, tail, nose bag etc. But if we make all these, when will we have time to finish all our unfinished objects?!!

Wishing summer would come....

A great mix of unfinished objects appeared last Tuesday, from a warm woollen scarf to keep the chill off

to a piece of amazing cotton crochet for a summer parasol. (If only this heralded the start of better weather!)

One of our new members had dug out a length of sparkly beading, created some time ago on a bead loom, and proceeded to stitch it together to form a necklace.

In the meantime, another square for the knitted blanket was started during the evening - will this be finished at the next meeting?!

And colourful appliqued birds flew in to appear on a half-finished cushion.

Watch this space to see whether these delightful objects ever see the light at the end of the tunnel!
