Poppies & picnic

We chose a lovely late June evening to have a picnic in Rowntrees Park. It also gave us an opportunity to see the yarnbombing installation that some members had been involved with.

These huge white and red poppies are, if you look closely, actually made from lots of individual poppies. Various community groups in York took part in the making which was organised by Sally (Hippystitch) and Deborah.

Our members created small felt poppies and had a go at knitting with oversized needles to create part of a large white poppy. Hopefully we didn't do too much damage to the people and objects sat next to us!

The whole display commemorates those who gave their lives during the First World War and can be seen by the tennis courts during July. It was a great project to be involved in.

Dreaming of spring greens

Don't these luscious greens make your long for spring? Some lovely patchwork is taking shape here....

... and more Suffolk puffs to add to the collection - this might just be our longest running UFO since the group began!

Here's some beautiful beadwork on a bracelet - it reminds you of Art Deco designs

And an applique piece part way through, inspired by Eastern European folk art.
